Dr Lucy Arnold and Dr Lucie Bea Dutton present …’In the Weave’
IN THE WEAVE: A PUBLIC TALK EXPLORING THE TUDOR TEXTILE TRADE AND HILARY MANTEL’S CROMWELL TRILOGY
A talk that will explore the relationship between fabric as material and fabric as metaphor in Hilary Mantel’s historical novels. Dr Lucy Arnold’s research in this area explores the connection between texts and textiles, both for members of Tudor society, and for us as contemporary readers and Dr Lucie Bea Dutton, incorporates her historic research interests into her quilts and has been stitching work inspired by Hilary Mantel’s Cromwell Trilogy for almost a decade. She is particularly interested in the role of stitching across the trilogy, and the fictionalised Cromwell’s knowledge of the time and skill associated with textile work. She writes about the project at Stitching Thomas Cromwell – Textile interpretations of the Wolf Hall Trilogy (stitchingcromwell.com)
