Worcester residents are encouraged to celebrate their city’s magnificent heritage in the annual Love Worcester Heritage Festival happening this February half term. Despite the pandemic the Festival continues to go ahead with some in-person events and many online activities to take part in. The Love Worcester Heritage Festival is a great way to learn about and enjoy the city’s rich heritage, with museums, churches and heritage attractions all participating and ‘virtually’ opening their doors for people to explore.
The week-long celebration of the unique history that the city is blessed with includes a whole variety of events for all the family. Without leaving the city, or even your sofa, this year you can explore and enjoy stories of Worcester’s history, craft activities to do at home and world class art exhibitions.
At Tudor House virtual visitors can explore the building’s intriguing connections with Cadbury’s, the world’s most famous chocolate company, through a zoom talk on Monday 15 February at 9pm. Tickets can be booked via Eventbrite. https://www.tudorhouse.org.uk/event/the-talkies-the-cadbury-connection/
Join Worcester Cathedral’s Learning Team online and explore the outdoors near you this half-term, with trails and virtual workshops based on the Cathedral’s art and architecture. Also listen to Love Themed Soundbites about famous people connected to Worcester Cathedral.
Visitors can explore art exhibitions such as the beautiful Skyscape exhibition online by visiting https://www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk/collections/ as well as finding out more about Worcester’s role in the English Civil War and enjoying lots of craft activities including making your own museum www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk/collections/activities/
Susan MacLeod Chair of the Worcester Heritage Partnership said “Each February the Heritage Partners look forward to welcoming visiting families to their venues, but this year is so different with Lockdown. However we are really pleased to be able to reach out and offer fun online activities, and some outdoor ones too, that you can take part in your own local outdoor space.”
The Love Worcester week also provides the ideal opportunity to launch the city’s 400th Charter anniversary. Throughout the year events and celebrations will focus on this important milestone in Worcester’s history.
