October is finally here and there are plenty of fun activities and seasonal events for you and your family to get into over half term. Whether its book festivals or spooky treats, we have something for everyone! Take a look below :


Spooky Root House Trail

Spetchley Park Gardens, Spetchley Park, WR5 1RS Worcester

27th – 31st October 11am – 4pm

The Gardens are about to have their annual Halloween makeover with lots of new ghouls and frights in store. Follow our ghoulishly delightful trail around the Gardens, tiptoe through the Trembling Tunnel, sidestep the Sinister Serpent and Mouldy Mummy, and then whisper along Witches Walk.
It’s going to be more spook-takular than ever and runs from Saturday 27th to Wednesday 31st October.


Halloween Family Rave

Worcester Arts Workshop, 21 Sansome Street, WR1 1UH Worcester, Worcestershire

28th October 11:30am – 1:30pm

This Halloween we’re hosting a Family Rave. Strut your funky stuff in a family friendly environment.
The event will kick off with BBC Hereford & Worcester’s Tammy Gooding.
Jessie DJ will be mixing Cbeebies tunes, 90’s classics and some Halloween songs, and there will be a special guest appearance by Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc.
Halloween costumes are encouraged – come along in your spooky best! We’ll have glow sticks, bubbles, face painting, craft activities and lots of dancing!


Autumn Air Drying Clay Vessels Workshop Ages 4 to 11

Worcester Arts Workshop, 21 Sansome Street, WR1 1UH Worcester

29th October 11:15am – 12:15pm

Our expert tutor Kitty Cazes will be leading this autumnal air-drying clay workshop this October half term.
Children will create paper clay plates, vases and vessels with autumn decorations which they can paint at home as a take-away project. The clay items will be decorated with imprints and reliefs from leaves and other autumn items


Ghosts & Gunpowder

Get ready for a week of intrigue and fun as we decipher puzzles and challenges to try and save The Commandery from gunpowder plotters!

ZIM ZAM ZOOM!

A gentle, fun and interactive session for 0-6 year olds and their parents/carers. Expect soothing guitar music as well as poems, riddles and action rhymes aplenty, full of bugs and bubbles, rockets and pirates, aliens and a whole heap of funny faces.


Once Upon a Star -The Story of the Big Bang

A totally cosmic spacey show for 5-11 year olds with interactive storytelling, drama, music and poetry – all based on James’ non-fiction picture book Once Upon A Star. James has taken this show to the Roald
Dahl Museum, Oxford Story Museum and Edinburgh Festival. Includes a mini writing workshop.


The Blue Bird

Presented by Lightbox Theatre. One wintery evening Tyltyl wakes to find a hump back figure in his bedroom. She is obviously a fairy. Tyltyl must find the bluebird that makes people happy. Tyltyl doesn’t know about bluebirds, or where he might find one but joined by his faithful pets the search begins…


Play with Print at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum

Play with Print at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum on Wednesday 31st October, 11 – 3pm as part of the annual The Big Draw Festival which celebrates drawing in all its forms world-wide. Halloween themed Play with Print is in association with artist Stephen Fowler.

Halloween Run 2018

St Richard’s Hospice, Wildwood Drive, WR5 2QT Worcester

Join us for our spooktacular Halloween run in the Worcester Woods country park. A choice of 2.5K and 5K routes will be available on the day of the event, with plenty of trick or treat stations along the route. Be prepared for ghouls, ghosts, slime and sweet treats. There will be prizes for the best fancy dress and additional activities to get involved with.


Spooky Welly Walk

Come along for a spooky walk through our woodland and collect autumnal treats along the way to make your own hanging decoration.
See if you can spot the pumpkins as you enjoy a wander through the woodland looking for signs of autumn.

Terror by Torchlight

Join The Commandery staff to hear tales of ghostly happenings within one of the most haunted buildings in Worcestershire, complete with a pre-tour bar. Be sure to remember to bring a torch to see The Commandery at its spookiest. Halloween Faces – Make & Take

All over the world archaeologists have found masks and pots decorated with human faces. Using these as inspiration, make your own clay face pot and mini-mask to take home – will yours be ghoulishly scary or friendly?

30 minute sessions between 1-3pm, £3 – booking essential.

Halloween fun for little horrors! Enjoy spooky crafts at Witley Court this half term, as we show you how to make beastly bats, spider webs, spooky owls and more. Come dressed to thrill for the chance to win a wicked prize in the daily kids costume competition.

Commandery & Fort Royal Park

Join the Friends of Fort Royal Park & Commandery for an alternative to Trick or Treating on Halloween! There is a fancy dress catwalk from 5-6pm in the Great Hall of the Commandery and an activity trail in the dark in the park between 5-7pm. Start at the Commandery or in the park!
