Exploring the history of the Spanish Flu pandemic

The ‘Spanish Flu,’ which broke out in 1918 killed more than 50 million people, yet is relatively unknown. It was a worldwide pandemic yet its consequences were seen locally in the long queues outside doctors and pharmacists, factories that lost production, schools and the cinemas that were closed and in an unprecedented and unmanageable demand for undertaker’s services.

This Study Day will explore the context, histories and science that surrounds the Spanish Flu pandemic
