Christmas in Worcester

Christmas is always a special time of year in Worcester, but never more so than this year now that we can all get together to celebrate again! Worcester has a lot to offer visitors this Christmas with festive events and activities plus all your favourite High Street names and lots of independent retailers to provide you with unique gifts for those special people in your life – or treat yourself!

Christmas Lights
Driving down New Road towards St Johns, follow the star which lights up the night and leads the way to the beautiful mini St Johns trees – how many can you spot above the businesses in the ‘village in the city’? The St Johns lights are complemented by a beautiful tree in front of the Cathedral and swathes of sparkling decorations throughout the city centre.

The Big Switch On
The festive light switch-on event will take place on Saturday 27 November.  Excitement will build in Worcester’s Cathedral Square from 2.00pm, with a range of performances from local groups and artists including Perry Wood junior school choir, pantomime stars from the Swan Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast production and performances from singing sensations Vinesto, Andy Grimwood and Laura Christopher. Youthcomm radio presenters will compere throughout, with the official light switch-on taking place at 6.00pm.

Children’s craft activities
This free family friendly event at The Hopmarket on Saturday 4 December will include a host of Christmas arts and crafts such as painting glass lantern jars and making eco-friendly Christmas crackers.  The tranquil Hopmarket courtyard is an ideal place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the Victorian Fayre and explore the independent shops and cafes.  The Hopmarket is a 2 minute walk from Foregate Street Station.

Selfie Spots
Worcester is always picturesque but never more so than at Christmas! Make sure you pop into Crowngate Shopping Centre to snap a selfie in one of their fabulous selfie seats in Bell Square. Share your photos on social media and tag in @CrowngateWorcs

Santa Claus is coming to town!

Say hello and have a photo with the man in red, he’ll be there from Saturday 27 November at various times until he heads back to the North Pole on 23rd December – visit the Crowngate website for his appearance schedule.

Christmas Trail and Festive Crafts
The Commandery is offering festive activities for all the family throughout December. Visitors can enjoy an arctic animals trail and fun festive crafts that will keep all the family entertained. Their task is to search The Commandery to help Bernard the Polar Bear find all his friends before his party, and then children can create their very own arctic animal from craft materials. The trail launches Wednesday 1 December.
